What’s SOUP Got to Do With It? (A Kitchen Confession)
If you've known me for a while, you know that I am not, and never have been, very comfortable in the kitchen.
I was the child climbing trees, riding my bike, running, and roller skating everywhere. My mother tried to teach me some things about cooking, but the kitchen always felt too constrained. Too boxed in. And recipes? They felt too much like rules.
So I tend to go rogue. My best friend once informed me that the reason my apple cake turned out too dense was because the brown sugar I threw in - thinking I was so clever - is actually considered a "wet" ingredient. Who knew? Other times, I simply get distracted and end up burning the... hardboiled eggs.
The Magic of the Stock Pot
However, there is one exception: I love to make soup!
The soup I crafted over the weekend channeled my ancestors. It had its roots in the "old country," a recipe my people brought to the U.S. only three generations ago, finding refuge from pogroms and worse. Chicken soup is in my DNA; its love and medicine run deep through millennia and diaspora. Along with that transgenerational wisdom, I added some Peruvian flair just for fun.
And this is why I adore creating soup. For me, it’s magic. It’s alchemy.
Ingredients for Transformation
That same spirit of alchemy is why I love the work I do in hypnotherapy. I get to mix a blend of things that are simultaneously familiar and revolutionary.
Think of it this way: each person who steps into my hypnotic space brings their own unique ingredients - their life stories, their deepest dreams, and the current challenges they face. Together, we don't follow a rigid cookbook. Instead, we co-create a personalized recipe for transformation, tailored just for them.
Hypnotherapy is the process of alchemizing individual experiences, memories, deeply held beliefs, desires, needs, and potential with tools and techniques that align with personal goals. No two sessions are exactly alike because we are co-creating a space for meaningful change and thriving.
Just like when I make soup, the "recipes" we create in session are an act of deep listening, joy, and focused intention.
It might be a pinch of anti-anxiety to boost confidence; a splash of deep relaxation to enhance sleep; a healthy pour of bravery to meld with that upcoming flight or speaking engagement; an infusion of transmutation to overcome anxious attachment patterns; or a rebalance of gut-brain communication for managing chronic issues. It is always designed to create something powerful and life-changing.
Just as a good soup warms you from the inside out, the changes we initiate with hypnosis go deep within the mind to shift patterns, heal old wounds, release limiting beliefs, and help you step into the person you’re truly meant to be.
The magic of preparing soup is that it’s never just about the soup - it’s about the love, creativity, and intention that go into every pot. For me, hypnosis feels the same way. It is an act of alchemy, where intention and creativity blend to help people step into the fullness of who they want to be.
