Hypnosis for Public Speaking: Becoming Confident Anywhere You Stand

Updated: Jan 7

A woman in glasses stands at a podium, hand on chest, looking distressed. She's in a bright room with white blinds and wears a blue shirt.

That damned voice. You know the one.

  • The “I’m not good enough” narrator.

  • The “Who am I to be here?” heckler.

  • The “Everyone’s judging me” clown.

  • The “I hate the sound of my own voice” bully.

  • And sometimes even the sneaky one that whispers, “What if I’m actually great… and that makes people uncomfortable?”

What most people don’t realize is... those voices aren’t intuition, truth, or reality.

They’re old messaging. Old protection strategies. A subconscious “crew” that learned, long ago, that visibility might equal danger.

And public speaking just happens to be one of the places where those voices like to scream the loudest.

When Fear Shows Up Right Before You Level Up

I recently had the rare privilege of witnessing hypnosis results in real time.

A client invited me to attend a virtual workshop she was leading. It was technical, creative, and attended by people from all over the world. Beforehand, her nerves were loud. Her inner commentary was relentless. All the classic fears showed up right on cue, because that’s what often happens right before we expand into a new level of visibility or leadership.

But during that workshop?

She was calm.

Grounded.

Clear.

Engaging.

Brilliant.

She trusted her voice. She trusted her knowledge. She trusted herself.

And the audience? They loved her. Of course they did!

This is what happens when we stop fighting fear at the surface and instead work with it at the deeper root level where it actually lives.

Where Fear of Speaking Really Comes From

Another client came to me with a story that’s far more common than people admit.

Her fear of speaking out loud traced back to a moment in childhood: a pressured school speech, multiple authority figures correcting her, urging her to be louder, clearer, slower, better. She froze. She cried. She blacked out during the actual speech. And her nervous system filed away a powerful lesson:

Speaking = pressure, judgment, and overwhelm.😨

As an adult, this showed up as:

  • Feeling uneasy speaking in groups

  • Wanting the perfect thing to say before opening her mouth

  • Holding herself back at work despite being capable and respected

Even though she was an incredibly gregarious, extroverted person.

Her employer knew she had immense leadership potential and she was about to receive a promotion. But she felt nervous stepping fully into a new role in which she'd be in front a of more people. Doing more regular presentations was going to be a requirement of her new position.

She did what many motivated, high-achieving people do: she pushed herself. She prepared. She practiced. And yes, exposure helped some.

But effort alone doesn’t resolve the root cause.

What Hypnosis Actually Does (And Why It Works)

Hypnosis isn’t about “confidence tricks” or forcing yourself to be fearless.

It’s about working with the subconscious mind - the part that learned those early stories, stored those emotional memories, and still believes it’s protecting you.

In hypnosis, we:

  • Quiet the outdated fear responses

  • Rewire the meaning your nervous system assigns to speaking and visibility

  • Release the need to be perfect before you’re allowed to speak

  • Establish a felt sense of safety, clarity, and self-trust

In other words, you become the captain again, instead of letting old protective voices run the ship.

And when that happens?

Clients don’t just “get through” presentations.

They:

  • Speak up naturally in meetings

  • Lead discussions with presence

  • Feel grounded even when they’re front and center

  • Step into leadership roles with courage

  • Become role models for their teams, families, and children

One client said it best: she didn’t just want to speak - she wanted to become the kind of woman whose voice inspires others.

And now? She is.

This Isn’t Just About Public Speaking

Fear of public speaking is rarely just about speaking.

It’s about:

  • Being seen

  • Taking up space

  • Trusting yourself

  • Letting your voice matter

  • Allowing confidence to feel safe in your body

When hypnosis helps you become clear, calm, and confident, that state carries everywhere - into work, relationships, leadership, and life.

Because the goal isn’t to eliminate fear. It’s to stop letting it run the show.

And when that happens? You don’t just speak. You stand.
